NETFLIX

During my time at Netflix I had an awesome opportunity to work on the launch of a new original series titled Grand Army. I was originally tasked with creating 5 character spots. One for each of the main characters in the show. We came up with the idea to take the music that was finished in the trailer and make custom versions for each of the characters that matched the character. The spots were such a success that we decided to do a 6th spot that combined the 5 into one combo. This ended up being used as the Product trailer on the shows page on the Netflix App.

01

DOM

This spot follows the character Dom. For Dom we used the original version of the song. This was the first of the group that I cut. I really like the way the bookend works in this cut.

02

JAYSON

For Jayson we added a bit of an orchestral sound for the open and some saxophone/jazz elements to match his character.

03

LEILA

For Leila we went with gentle string plucks and punched it up with heavy bits of sound design to better represent the transition of her character from innocent to dark.

04

SID

For Sid we added the element of ticking clocks. I felt like it helped represent the feeling that his character was on the verge of exploding. There is so much that he is dealing with in his life that he feels like he could blow at any moment.

05

JOEY

For Joey we went with acoustic guitar and piano as the main drivers. I liked the gentleness of the guitar at the top to reflect the feeling of innocent teenage romance that her character was experiencing. It slowly transitions from that feeling of innocence to the dark reality of what she later experienced as a result of some of the choices she made.

06

COMBO

I wasn't initially assigned a combo spot. Its something extra I did since we were ahead of schedule on the other spots. As you can see each character had a corresponding color, so in this combo we were able to combine all off them to form a sort of rainbow to bring them all together. You can hear how each character is introduced with their unique version of the music. In the backend I was able to layer the stems from each original cue to bring them all together as one. This campaign was such a joy to work on and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to stretch my creative muscles on this project.
